Where the text actually comes from
The standard passage is a scrambled extract of Cicero, written in 45 BC and rediscovered by a printer in the 1500s.
He rearranged the words to create a specimen page, which is why it reads as Latin without meaning anything: the words are real, the sentences are not.

One accessibility caution
Screen readers will happily read placeholder text aloud as gibberish, and search engines will index it if it ships.
Make sure filler is removed or hidden with aria-hidden before anything goes live — it is easy to miss a forgotten block.

What is lorem ipsum?
It is scrambled Latin drawn from a first-century text. The words are deliberately meaningless so that reviewers look at the layout instead of reading the copy.
Why not use real text as a placeholder?
Real words invite comments about wording rather than design. Nonsense keeps a review focused on spacing, hierarchy and line length.
How much placeholder text should I use?
Enough to fill the layout as it will really look. Short filler hides problems that only appear once a paragraph wraps to five lines.
Does the generator repeat words?
Every passage is drawn from the same word list, so longer text repeats. The classic text does exactly the same.
